Beauty

Beauty is not just skin deep. Lisa Her is probably the most beautiful person I know, inside and out! She came into my life like a ray of sunshine, it was right when I had moved to Raleigh. I had decided to give up on photography, but she always encouraged me to continue and would always ask if I wanted to tag along to shoots. At the time I didn’t feel like I had anything left to offer but she always gave me praises and encouragement. She is like my second mother and I am so thankful to have such a beautiful soul in my life!

Feeling nostalgic so I decided to go for a film look. Here is a soundtrack to match!

Time For Myself

I had been working and traveling so much in 2018 that when my friend asked me to join them on their Italy excursion, I said yes! I was feeling so exhausted and have always wanted to travel overseas on my own and so I did. We went around taking lifestyle photos wherever we went and finally found ourselves in Positano. I was a little hesitant because when we arrived in Naples it was very sketchy looking and so I did not have a lot of expectations for Positano. We were taken to the small village by a van, when we got to the scenic coast I immediately fell in love.

I did not know strangers, let alone an entire village could be so humble and kind. I had no intention of staying but after grabbing lunch and being shown kindness wherever we went I decided to extend my stay. My friends had left for home already so I was in Italy on my own for 4 days. We were there in January which is their offseason, and so the town was very quiet with only a handful of tourists. I was met with kindness wherever I went. I remember taking a walk through the town and spilling water on myself and one of the villagers saw me and asked if I wanted to go in their house to get cleaned up. I kindly declined because people in the USA are not usually so welcoming of total strangers. I had my guard up a bit for my own safety, but after being met with so much kindness by complete strangers I was able to let my guard down and just enjoy my stay. If I needed help the people there were always willing to help. I booked an Airbnb a bit far from the village but really enjoyed the 5-mile walk to town every morning for brunch, it was so beautiful. I was just sitting by the beach taking in all the views when I was met by a sandal shop owner who showed me around town he offered me a ride on his scooter but I kindly declined lol. It was raining the last few days so I decided to stay at my Airbnb and enjoy the view of the church on my balcony. My Airbnb hosts were amazing and even brought me flowers before I left as a thank you and offered me a discounted ride to the airport. I enjoyed our conversations, I think I left a piece of my heart there and will go visit again! -Houa

Ka Lia Universe

This was a last minute collab with my friend Stacey Moua, and her assistant Crystal Lee. Stacey needed an assistant for the day and wanted me to shoot as well so I brought along my camera to snap a few shots, but I was mainly there for moral support. I had no clue who the model was and was surprised when it turned out to be Ka Lia, we met each-other a long time ago and said we were going to shoot but just never got the chance to work with each-other.

I had to photoshop all the dirt patches and the trail but I think it looks ok. :)
